Solution Architect - Pharmaceutical R&D

On behalf of a client in the pharmaceutical industry, we are looking for a Senior Solution Architect to support the modernisation of digital research applications and design solutions integrating commercial and internally developed systems.

Main Responsibilities Own end-to-end solution architecture for digital research applications, integrations, cloud-native platforms, AI and data flows

Design how commercial software and internally developed applications integrate into the existing research IT landscape

Evaluate commercial software solutions and assess integration requirements and implementation effort

Define architecture options, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), reference architectures and phased modernisation roadmaps

Work closely with software and data architects, engineers, product owners and application experts on architecture and technical decisions

Ensure architecture aligns with enterprise standards, IT security policies and applicable regulatory requirements

Support the design and implementation of PoCs, research applications and integrations when needed

Key Requirements Strong software architecture and solution design experience within pharmaceutical research IT

Experience with research data management and scientific digital solutions

Knowledge of applications and architectures supporting automated, high-throughput screening environments

Technical experience with at least one object-oriented programming language; .NET/C# and Python are preferred

Hands‑on experience with microservices and event-driven architectures, including Apache Kafka/event streaming

Experience with containerisation and Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and/or Bicep

Experience with Domain-Driven Design

Knowledge of FAIR principles for research data
